The world's longest river, located in Egypt, the Nile flows 4,132 miles (6,650 km) northward to the Mediterranean Sea (a very unusual direction for a river to take). It was considered the source of life by the ancient Egyptians and has played a vital role in the country's history.
The Nile has two major tributaries: the longer White Nile, considered the prime stream and headwaters; and the Blue Nile, which carries about two-thirds of the river's water volume and most of the silt.
The White Nile begins at Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake,
the Blue Nile's source at Lake Tana in Ethiopia. The Blue Nile meets up with the White Nile near Sudan's capital city, Khartoum.

يجري في قارة افريقيا، وينبع من منطقة البحيرات العظمى في وسط افريقيا، وله رافدين رئيسين هما النيل الأبيض الذي ينبع من بحيرة فكتوريا، والنيل الأزرق الذي ينبع من بحيرة تانا في اثيوبيا.
يمد نهر النيل مصر بالماء العذب منذ آلاف السنين. يتضمن وادي نهر النيل الآلاف من المعالم الأثرية في مواقع مثل الأقصر وأسوان
وهى بذلك منطقة تستحق عن جدارة وصفها بأكبر متحف مفتوح في العالم،
